If I were to ask you where your engine is, where do you feel the most concentrated energy? Where is your motor installed? Some might point to their heart, others perhaps to their head, and some actors may indicate another spot – all are correct, even those who jest about it!
The first useful realization: I know where I feel… The second useful realization: I feel it physically and can precisely answer where… The third useful realization: I know the “starting point,” now I can unravel the tangle further and become even more conscious, thus more successful…
If I were to ask you, where is your character’s engine installed? How do you understand where to point? By logic? It’s possible, but it may not work because your logic differs from that of, for example, the director, the audience, or a passerby… I recommend undergoing the understanding process “by foot.” By anchoring yourself in the text and following your imagination, you will surely feel how the Character breathes, moves, and where their center is located. Imagination isn’t something abstract or random; it’s a process of psychological pathways that begins in the unconscious, and in acting, it precisely launches with the text, making your attempt the most honest towards the Character.
Immersing yourself in the energetic flow of the role, you begin not just to fantasize but to truly feel the vibrations of the Character, and as a result, your hand will naturally reach out to “show” the answer to where your hero’s energy center is. And from there, we start to “unravel the tangle” with ourselves…
